Unit Study Resources

Required: Gather Round Unit Teacher's Guides
Recommended: Gather Round Leveled Student Books

We recommend at home each week, families read the suggested lessons from the unit study teacher's guides in both science and history together as a family and students complete the student book pages for their level.

In class, we will reference the information as students engage themes from science and history and use them as a backdrop for guided practice of language and math skills through games, activities, and experiments which compliment the themes of each week's lessons.

Fall Themes: Chemistry and US History 1
Spring Themes: Unsolved Mysteries and US History 2
Optional Full Year: Renaissance and Revival (recommended mainly for upper elementary)

Content Memory Resources

Recommended: Musical Memory and Poetry Memorization

Memorizing foundational content in a variety of subject areas can be extremely helpful for long-term retention when building bodies of knowledge throughout one's education and life. Additionally, memory in and of itself is a valuable skill to develop.

Information is most easily memorized and retained through song. Musical Memory is an app which hosts content memory songs in the areas of Math, Science, English, Latin, and Bible. We will use these songs to support weekly themes throughout our classes and recommend using the app at home to commit the content to memory.

IEW's Poetry Memorization program is a systematic approach to building the skill of memory through recitation and review. Students across all levels will be encouraged to work through this program at their own pace over time.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7
And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. Teach them diligently to your children...

Mark 12:30
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.

Colossians 2:6-7
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith.
